Monografia (graduação)—Universidade de Brasília, Instituto de Ciências Humanas, Departamento de Serviço Social, 2013.O presente trabalho aborda a questão da surdez para além da deficiência, apresentando o Surdo através de uma visão cultural, aproximando o leitor da Cultura Surda e assim desmistificando a surdez como um impedimento social. Dessa forma, o objetivo deste trabalho foi, buscar em outras áreas do conhecimento bases que permitissem um melhor atendimento aos Surdos através de uma nova perspectiva de entendimento destes. Para isso foi utilizada análise e revisão bibliográfica de livros, documentos, artigos, dentre outros que permitiu perceber a necessidade de repensar a atuação do Serviço Social frente a esses indivíduos, visualizando-os não mais através do olhar clínico, mas enxergando neles sujeitos possuidores de cultura, identidade e língua própria, e que devem ter seus direitos garantidos. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThis paper addresses the issue of deafness further then a disability, presenting the Deaf through a cultural vision, bringing the reader closer to the Deaf Culture and thus demystifying deafness as a social impediment. Thus the aim of this work was to search bases in other areas of knowledge that allow a better treatment to the Deaf through a new perspective of understanding. The methodology used for the study was the analysis and literature review of books, documents, articles, among others that allowed realize the need of rethinking the role of social work toward these individuals viewing them no longer through the clinical gaze, but seeing them as subjects possessed of culture, identity and their own language, and that they should have their rights guaranteed
