A synthetic medium containing paraffin, especially of C14-C18, as a source of carbon was able to support growth and pigment- formation of strain HP/a of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (pyocyanea) which has been isolated from paraffin dirt of an oil well.
Among the pigments, pyocyanine and 2-nonyl-4-oxychinolin have been identified. Growth and pigment formation are also well supported by carbon acids up to C8 and by carbinols C5-C8
