Abstract
This study was designed to analyze the socioeconomic impacts of the process of
mechanization of sugarcane sector and the expansion of production in new areas like the
Midwest. The sugar industry has expanded to new areas with emphasis on the state of
Goias, however, the sugarcane industry in the Northeast region of the country stagnated,
with relative loss of participation with respect to domestic production and difficulties in
increasing the degree of mechanization in the light of the relief. With the introduction of
new technology in sugarcane production the demand for skilled workers grows with
increasing unemployment among workers with low qualification. With that, the quality
and formalization of the employment rise, along with pay. A question arising from this
process is about the behavior of the balance of employment. The study suggests there
will be dismissal of workers involved in manual cutting, but in return there will be a
greater demand for workers with higher qualification. In the end, suggests a study on
alternative employment for manpower unemployed by the sector, which apparently will
have no alternative work.Mestre em EconomiaEste estudo foi elaborado para analisar os impactos socioeconômicos do
processo de mecanização do setor sucroalcooleiro e da expansão da produção por novas
áreas como a região Centro-Oeste. A indústria sucroalcooleira se expandiu por novas
áreas com destaque para o estado de Goiás. Em contrapartida, indústria sucroalcooleira
da região Nordeste do país estagnou, apresentando perda relativa de participação com
relação à produção nacional e dificuldades para aumentar o grau de mecanização em
função do relevo. Com a introdução de novas tecnologias na produção sucroalcooleira a
demanda por trabalhadores qualificados cresce à medida que aumenta o desemprego dos
trabalhadores com baixo grau de qualificação. Com isso, a qualidade e formalização do
emprego se elevam, juntamente com a remuneração. Uma indagação que surge a partir
desse processo é sobre o comportamento do saldo do emprego. O estudo sugere que
haverá demissão dos trabalhadores envolvidos com o corte manual, mas em
contrapartida haverá uma demanda maior por trabalhadores com maior grau de
qualificação. Ao final, sugere-se um estudo sobre as alternativas de emprego para a
mão-de-obra desempregada pelo setor, que aparentemente não terá alternativa de
trabalho
