The phytonym Οατύριον has been explained through a formal resemblance between the flower and the satyr. The significance, however, of this phytonym can only be fully understood from a religious perspective. Regarding to this, on the one hand, the ancient testimonia about the uazúe~ov are taken into account and re-considered, and, on the other hand, the Οατύριον is connected with the essential characteristics of the vegetal world in Greek literature and religion
