Aborda-se a malária no território metropolitano português, salientando as causas para a sua existência e variações na sua incidência em território nacional. Com o objectivo de realizar um seguimento cronológico correcto, bem como uma coerente análise dos trabalhos do Instituto Bacteriológico Câmara Pestana, realizar-se-á a identificação dos efeitos, em Portugal, de investigações internacionais sobre esta doença. Será igualmente realizada a descrição cronológica e análise crítica dos estudos e trabalhos anti-maláricos realizados pelo Instituto, bem como das condicionantes deste mesmo Instituto no caminho para a erradicação da malária em Portugal.In this work is intended to evaluate the importance of the Instituto Câmara Pestana Bacteriological Institute in anti-malarial research and strugle. As such, is shown a brief historical overview from the earliest records of malaria in metropolitan Portugal, highlighting the causal relationships to the existence / variations of the disease in the country. In order to carry out a correct chronological follow as well as a consistent further analysis of the work of Câmara Pestana Bacteriological Institute, inevitably, will also be identified the works of international researchers in the discovery of important factors of the disease being studied. In the last chapter of this work will also be performed a chronological description and critical analysis of all anti-malaria studies and research held by the Câmara Pestana Bacteriological Institute , as well as, the restrictions of that Office on the way to the eradication of malaria in Portugal
