EditorialThe Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute celebrates itsfirst decadePulmonary Circulation 2017; 7(2) 283–284DOI: 10.1177/2045893217713107This summer, the Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute(PVRI) celebrates its ten-year anniversary. The bold missionof the PVRI is: ‘‘to reduce the global burden of pulmonaryvascular disease within the next two decades.’’ The PVRIhas three primary objectives: to improve the care of patientsall over the world who suffer from pulmonary vascular dis-ease; to facilitate and accelerate research in the clinical andbasic science of the disease; and to encourage the develop-ment of new therapies. Timely publication of new advancesin basic, translational, and clinical research on pulmonaryvascular disease is a critical way to achieve these objectives.The PVRI’s early foray into publishing was the Textbookof Pulmonary Vascular Disease, edited by Jason X.-J. Yuan,Joe G.N. Garcia, Charles A. Hales, Stuart Rich, Stephen L.Archer, and John B. West. Writing and editing began in2008; Springer published the textbook in 2011. This bookcombines basic scientific knowledge on the pulmonary cir-culatory system at levels of the molecule, cell, tissue, andorgan with clinical diagnosis and treatment of pulmonaryvascular diseases. State-of-the-art techniques and theirpotential applications in research, diagnosis, and treatmentof pulmonary vascular diseases are also explained. A secondedition of the book is in the planning stage now.When members of the PVRI launched the journal in2011, no one knew what to expect. Were there enoughresearchers in clinical science, basic science, and transla-tional science to support a new journal exclusively focusedon the pulmonary circulation and pulmonary vascular dis-ease? The answer is now a resounding ‘‘yes!’’After six and a half years, over 600 submissions, over 500published articles, and over 100,000 PDF-article downloads,Pulmonary Circulation has proven its ability to capture someof the best original research and comprehensive reviews inthe field. The journal has a global reach with authors frommore than 65 different countries. Our goal was thatPulmonary Circulation would become the valued journal inthe field. We believe we are well on the way to achieving thatgoal.This year, in Volume 7 of the journal, we are on track topublish more original research articles and reviews per issue,when compared with previous volumes. The editorial lead-ership team has been busy with more manuscripts submittedthan in the past. This means many of you on the EditorialBoard will receive more invitations to review manuscriptsand support the continuing growth of the journal. We counton timely reviews to show authors that we are committed toa rapid response to their manuscripts. We count on ourEditorial Board members to support the journal by submit-ting manuscripts to and reviewing manuscripts for the jour-nal, reading and citing the published articles in the journal,and recommending the journal to colleagues and students.Pulmonary Circulation will receive its first impact factorfrom Thomson Reuters this summer. The impact factor is ameasure of a journal’s citation influence in the broader lit-erature. First, thank you to all who have submitted manu-scripts to the journal, encouraged your colleagues to submitmanuscripts, and read the journal. We also express thanksto authors who have cited research published in PulmonaryCirculation; our first impact factor will reflect the depth,breadth, and quality of the journal.Again, we look to you, our readers and contributors, tohelp sustain the journal and take us to the next level.
