Geography of Hip-hop Culture (in USA and Croatia)

Abstract

Tema prvostupničkog rada je kako se hip-hop kultura očituje u prostoru SAD-a i Hrvatske, odnosno kako prostor utječe na nju. Analiziranjem stihova glazbenih hip-hop uradaka, proučavanjem načina života i stanovanja u određenim gradovima, zaključiti će se koji su to elementi ove kulture i kakvo je stanje Afroamerikanaca u SAD-u nakon borbe za građanska prava, te pod kojim utjecajima se ova kultura širi, odnosno pod kojim utjecajima se stvaraju novi stilovi hip-hop glazbe. Prvostupnički rad se također osvrće na povijest hrvatske hip-hop kulture s naglaskom na izraze trenutačne političke i ekonomske sitiuacije u Hrvatskoj. Na kraju se može zaključiti da glazba igra središnju ulogu u kulturi, zbog mogućnosti prostorne i vremenske smještenosti, mogućnosti pružanja snažnog osjećaja doma i pripadnosti, te mogućnosti estetiziranja društvenih, političkih i ekonomskih prilika te načina stanovanja. Također, zaključuje se da je hip-hop kultura jedna od najraširenijih umjetničkih pokreta, te da je utjecaj hip-hop glazbe sve veći na mlade naraštaje, ne samo u SAD-u, nego u cijelom svijetu, pa tako i u Hrvatskoj.The theme of the Undergraduate Thesis is how hip-hop culture is manifested in the US and in the Croatia, respectively how the space affects it. Analyzing the lyrics of hip-hop recordings, studying lifestyles and ways of life in certain gravity centers, it will be concluded what are the elements of this culture and what is the status of African Americans in the United States after the struggle for civil rights and under what influences this culture and new hip-hop music styles are spreading and being created. The Undergraduate Thesis also focuses on the history of Croatian hip-hop culture with an emphasis on the current political and economic situation of Croatia. In the end, it can be concluded that music plays a central role in culture, due to its spatial and temporal potential, the ability to provide a strong sense of place and belonging, and the ability to estimate social, political and economic opportunities and ways of living. It is also concluded that hip-hop culture is one of the most widespread artistic movements, and that the influence of hip-hop music is growing on younger generations, not only in the US but throughout the world, as well as in Croatia
