The Coping with the Oppressed Feelings Program: A Pilot Feasibility Study for Employed Female Caregivers of Aging Parents

Abstract

Thousands of older, Japanese adults are cared for by employed female family members. In 2016, 27% (34 million) of the population was over 65 years of age, and approximately 18% (6 million) were care receivers. An estimated 2.9 million women are home-based family caregivers, and 32% of these women (931,300) are middle-aged. The desire for employment among married woman has increased, and 75% or more of the female workforce comprises women aged 45-54 years old
