AKTIVITAS ANTIOKSIDAN BEBERAPA JENIS RUMPUT LAUT (SEAWEEDS) KOMERSIAL DI BALI DAN POTENSINYA DALAM MENURUNKAN KADAR KOLESTEROL DARAH

Abstract

In Bali there are many different types of seaweed that is often consumed as a vegetable and snack, such as Caulerpa spp. (local name Bulung Boni), Gracillaria spp (local name Bulung Sangu) and Euchema spinosum, but has not been reported the antioxidant activity of this seaweed and its potential in lowering blood cholesterol levels and other lipid profiles. In the second year of research was conducted the examination of total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglyceride levels of hypercholesterolemia Wistar rat plasma after given of the seaweed with a dose of 1 g / 100 g rat body weight / day and 1.5 g/100 g rat body weight / day with a duration of 30 days. The research can be concluded that the levels of total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, and triglyceride plasma hiperkelosterolemia rats given powder of seaweed Caulerpa spp., Gracilaria spp., and Euchema spinosum with a dose of 1 g/100 g body weight / day or 1.5 g/100 g body weight / day were significantly lower compared with total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, and triglyceride plasma hypercholesterolemia rats without seaweed powder. Powder of Caulerpa spp. with a dose of 1 g/100 g body weight / day is effective to reduce plasma total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, triglyceride, and can increase levels of high density lipoprotein. Key words : Caulerpa spp., Gracilaria spp., E. spinosum, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, high density lipoprotein, triglyceride
