I analysed the water supply market, the application of the polluter pays principle in environmental law and its effects on the pricing of water as a finite resource, the interaction of water services and the definition of water supply from an environmental and competition perspective, concluding with the regulatory aspects of the market. I presented these analyses from the point of view of drinking water supply, noting that in order to have a comprehensive understanding of pricing and liberalization aspects sometimes a broader approach is needed. This is above all true when the definition of ecosystem services, their pricing, access pricing of water supply or certain aspects of sustainable water usages (as defined in the WFD) are being acquainted with.d
