Analysis of migration and commuting flows to the selected functional centres of Slovenia in 2000-2010

Abstract

In the graduation thesis, inter-municipal migration and commuting flows to central municipalities of functional regions in Slovenia are analysed. Our analysis was performed for the period of eleven years between 2000 and 2010. Data about functional region centres have been acquired from Zupanec (2012). Using general gravity model we analysed the influence of stickiness (population in origin), influence of attractiveness (population in destination) and influence of travel time distance on flows. Moreover, using bivariate gravity model we analysed travel the influence of time distance on relative migration and commuting flows to functional centres of Slovenia. We consider labour commuting as an alternative to permanent migration. The results of analysis for 51 functional levels (1–30 and 50–70 functional centres) have been compared between each other (regarding discussion level and interaction type) and by the years (trend analysis). Furthermore, the results of analysis was compared with the influence of analysed parameters on migration and commuting flows to centres, presented in SDSS (2004), and centres of administrative units of Slovenia. In order to assure a more thorough explanation of diverse results, graphic presentations such as charts and graphs are included.\u
