The thesis describes the procedure of airports and airfields geographical location. The first part of the thesis includes a detailed description of airports and airfields with the necessary infrastructures, together with recommendations and standards of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) which need to be observed when projecting new airports. Also Slovenian airport and airfields network is presented, for the existing airports have to be included when determining the location of airport and airfield infrastructure in certain area. Furthermore, the thesis shows the procedures of spatial planning in accordance with valid legislation. The content of national, municipal and detailed municipal spatial plan together with the procedure of acquiring construction permit is presented. The second part of the thesis is based on two concrete examples, i.e. the example of Novo mesto airport and Novi Lazi airfield. On the basis of these two examples the essential characteristics of spatial planning of such infrastructures and main differences of determining the location airports and airfields in the area are presented.
