The graduation thesis explores the adequacy of navigation activities on Ljubljanica River in the recently launched environmental protection programme Natura 2000 in the new regional park of Ljubljansko Barje (Ljubljana Marshlands). In the first part of my degree paper I presented the theoretical suppositions, which serve as groundwork for the later navigation planning on the river. I fully analyzed the current protection regime, presented the natural touristic and recreational potential and defined the navigational activity, which is connected with the wider area, suitable for development directions and in accordance with navigation interests. The second part of the paper analyzes several potential navigation forms on the river, their effect on the environment and other effects on surroundings and nearby activities. With the help of cabinet research work, by interviewing experts from relevant areas, including field work results and considering successful practical work from other aquatic areas in Slovenia and abroad I reached the conclusion that navigation on Ljubljanica could be minimized to the point where it would not have larger negative effects according to the protection directions of the area. It could also become one of the most interesting features that this regional park can offer. The most vulnerable factor on the river turned out to be some endangered rare bird species of the area. In the last part of the paper I presented two proposals for navigation regulation according to the analysis results and under strictly defined terms of the navigation regime and characteristics of the vessel. The first proposition is in the first place connected to the environment protection imperative – the navigation area from Ljubljana to Podpeč and\ud
the second one, which entirely includes the broader area and the tourist offer and\ud
considers the broader interest for river navigation - the navigation area from Ljubljana to\ud
Sinja Gorica (Vrhnika). In the context of river navigation planning the environmental\ud
programme Natura 2000 proved as of crucial significance oriented in full development\ud
and regulation of activities in the area meaning stable and enduring development bringing\ud
additional value to the area
