The purpose of this assignment is to illustrate the influence of construction of the motorway on urbanization. I approached the subject from the theoretical and practical aspect. Theoretical findings were additionally augmented by the empirical research on a section of a Dolenjska motorway, junction Šmarje-Sap. The goals of the assignment were to research the influence of construction of motorway on growth of urbanization and development of settlements in suburban areas, analyze the area Smarje- Sap with surrounding area, give suggestions for development of the researched area. The first theoretical part presents the influence of the construction of motorway on the settlement, especially on the number and the structure of the population, influence on the amount of construction, usage of the ground, change of land purpose, influence on the needs to build infrastructure. The theoretical findings were then tested on a practical example of the construction of the motorway next to junction Šmarje-Sap. The second part illustrates the results of the empirical research that was done on the part of the Dolenjska motorway next to junction Šmarje Sap. On that basis, the change of the land usage was discovered and whether this enables additional housing schemes. The end part of the assignment suggests one of the possible solutions to the organization of the researched area. Numerous solutions are given where it’s possible to build new estates and add the houses. The new central traffic route between the two main settlements is also presented
