Zakat is an Islamic teaching that refers to the empowerment and people‟s economy. The management of zakat continues to develop until the contemporary periods where at this time new problems arise that have not been known by the past scholars. These issues require new laws to answer questions that often arise from the community and are able to eliminate the doubts that exist in their minds. As the time progressed, zakat management thought should be in line with the development that occurred so the purpose of zakat can be accepted as expected. Yusuf Qardhawi and Sahal Mahfudh are Muslim figure and contemporary scholar who have thought about the management of productive zakat as the solution of the issue of zakat in this contemporary era. With the two models of thought from both figures, the researchers interested to eximine and analyze in depth this reseach, entitled“Productive Management Zakat Perspective Yusuf Qardhawi and Sahal Mahfudh”.
In this research, the problems studied are about; 1) How are the Yusuf Qardhawi and Sahal Mahfudh thoughts about management of productive zakat? 2) How is the comparative thoughts of Yusuf Qardhawi and Sahal Mahfudh about management of productive zakat?. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to reveal data about the thought of Yusuf Qardhawi and Sahal Mahfudh on the management of productive zakat and Comparation thoughts of the two figures about the management of productive zakat. The type of this reseach is library reseach using qualitative approach and descriptive-comparative. This reseach used data collection method that is documentation and method of analyzing data that is content analysis techniques.
Based on the data analysis, the result of this research shows that the management of productive zakat according to Yusuf Qardhawi and Sahal Mahfudh must use accountable and professional management concept ranging from zakat officers, compulsory property that must pay zakat, muzaki, mustahik, and distribution. All of that must be managed in earnest so the management of productive zakat can be successful. In the management of productive zakat, Yusuf Qardhawi and Sahal Mahfudh both provide opportunities to mustahik who do not have skills to be taught some skills so they can be given productive zakat funds according to their ability.
