Uji Aktivitas Antibakteri Kombinasi Eritromisin Dan 5 Ekstrak Tanaman Terhadap Staphylococcus aureus Resisten Antibiotik

Abstract

Bacterial resistance is a common problem in antibiotic therapy. Infectious bacteria will keep increasing and experiencing resistance. Therefore, the optimization of therapy is required, one of them is by using antibiotic combination with antibacterial plant. Avocado seeds and betel leaves were extracted by maseration method using 70% ethanol, while cashew leaf, pomegranate rind, and hirta leaves were macerated using 96% ethanol. The antibacterial activity test was conducted using Kirby Bauer disc diffusion method. Erythromycin disk were loaded with 10 μl each extract and were measured its inhibitory zone after incubation for 24 hours at 37˚C. The antibacterial activity is synergistic if the combination of inhibitory zone is greater than the single antibacterial. The combination of erythromycin with ethanol extract of avocado seed, cashew leaf, pomegranate rind, hirta leaf, and betel leaf can inhibit resistant Staphylococcus aureus. The combination of erythromycin with cashew leaf, hirta leaf, and betel leaf produce synergistic effect in which diameter inhibition zones were 15.2 mm, 14.8 mm, and 14.5 mm, respectively. The combination of erythromycin with avocado seed extract and pomegranate rind extract produce non-synergistic effect with inhibition zone of 24.8 mm and 20,8 mm, respectively
