Background: Menstrual pain or dysmenorrhea is a gynecological complaint due to an imbalance of the hormone progesterone in the blood resulting in the most common pain occurring in women. Menstrual pain is felt in the lower abdomen, upper thigh and back. Menstrual pain can be reduced by swedish massage.
Objective: To determine the effect of Swedish Massage on the decrease of menstrual pain in female students of PGSD Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta.
Research Method: This research uses quasi experiment method using one group pre and post test design approach. Where subjects are given treatment in the form of giving Swedish Massage. Normality test using Shapiro Wilk test, influence test using paired t-test and wilcoxon test.
Results: Based on the results of the treatment that has been done by researchers, the results obtained that swedish massage has an effect on decreasing menstrual pain in the back, lower abdomen and upper thighs. The statistic test for swedish massage test on the lower abdominal area using Paired Sample T Test obtained p = 0.0001 (<0,005), upper thigh area obtained p = 0.0001 (<0,005) and in lower back area using wilcoxon test obtained p = 0.001 (<0.005).
Conclusion: From the results of this study concluded that there is influence of swedish massage on the decrease of menstrual pain in the area of lower back, lower abdomen and upper thigh
