Fieldner, '06"for third place.In the departments, freshmen preferred "CallingAll Cars"; M.E.'s, "Cadet Engineers at Knox"; E.E.'s,the same; Arch's, "In the Doctor's Office," perhapsbecause we included many of their comments in thatsummary; Ch.E.'s, "Engineer's Bookshelf"; I.E/s,"Arno Fieldner, '06"; and Met's, "Quadrangle Quips".TechnicalityTo the question, "Should the articles be more orless technical," 40% thought they should be more sowhile last issue polled, December, 44% thought theyshould be more technical. Although this issue stilldidn't strike the right balance, it came closer than theDecember issue. An Arch-2 who wanted less technicalissues said, "I can't understand those damn technicalterms. They don't apply to my profession."Five Year Course"Should engineering be a five year course?" brought56 "yes's" and 44 "no's." On the "yes" side wereE.E.'s, Arch's, Ch.E's, Cer's, I.E.'s. On the "no" sidewere freshmen, M.E.'s, and Met's. Arch's, who alreadyhave a five year course, were the only branch unani-mously in favor of it.Study and DatesThe hours of study per day ranged from Yz to 8,and the number of dates per month from none to"millions"—a freshman who studied 4 hours a day.Freshmen do the least studying next to seniors, prob-ably because their work is easier. When they be-come sophomores, they study more and have moredates. And in their junior year they study muchmore, and have fewer dates. Seniors study the leastand have the most dates.Engineers study a total of 7,000 hours per day andhave 5,250 dates a month, based on an average of4.0 hours study per student per day, and 3.0 datesper student per month, with approximately 1750 en-rolled in the engineering college.One Arch, said he didn't study, he drafted. (Average for each student)CoachApproval of the new football coach was almostunanimous. 95% favored the change and two won-dered what was the matter with the old coach. Thesenior laboratory in architecture came through withits usual wit, "Brown is my favorite color."New BuildingsEngineers love good music. Four questionnairesindicated a desire for a new music building, althoughthe poll suggested only a field house, library, union,and auditorium. There comes a crude suggestionthat perhaps said engineers are tired of passing thedilapidated music buildings on their way to and fromclasses every day, but we shall stick firmly to our be-lief that it is due to the engineer's appreciation ofthe finer things in life.The field house got first choice, the auditoriumsecond, the union third, and the library fourth. Thelibrary's position in fourth place is probably due toengineers' infrequent need for it.Labor ConditionsIt was thought by 74.7% that labor conditionsamong students could be improved. Many confesseda lack of knowledge about campus labor conditions.EditorialWhen referred to the editorial "Engineering Edu-cation Today," 74.8% believed with the editor thatengineering education offers a good basic curriculumfor students not necessarily planning to become en-gineers. 70.8% believe it is fundamental training forthe army.Page 14 THE OHIO STATE ENGINEER© Damage to telephone lines bystorm and fire.
