Amartya Sen: The Heterodoxy of an Orthodox Economist discusses several characteristics of Amartya Sen?s style of work, and some of this substantial contributions. I remark that he is a critic but also a very established academic, and I emphasize his ability to communicate and his leadership
in generating new lines of research. I illustrate these points by referring to some of his
substantial contributions, relating to the concept of rationality, the measurement of inequality, and the formal analysis of freedom and rights
