Com apuntarem al principi del present treball, el Concili de Trento formà part del conjunt de processos que marcaren el canvi de l'època medieval a la modernitat. En aquest sentit, la funció de la reforma catòlica pot ser vinculada a una necessitat de conformació d'un nou tipus de religiositat. I aquesta, al seu temps, requeriria
una renovada actitud dins l'àmbit sagrat que determinaria canvis fonamentals en tots els aspectes del culte, entre els quals es troba la música. Els testimonis exposats en les següents pàgines il·lustren convenientment la manera com aquests canvis foren iniciats a la diòcesi de barcelona. D'una banda, la documentació recollida
posa de manifest la implicació dels bisbes barcelonins amb l'aplicació de la reforma. En aquest sentit, el seu interès per la història particular de la diòcesi està fora de dubte. D'altre banda, però, la rellevància del cas sobrepassa l'àmbit local en la mesura que constitueix un exemple del paper i la importància dels
bisbes respecte de l'aplicació de l'esperit del Concili de Trento. Esperem, així, que la nostra aportació contribueixi a una millor coneixença d'aquest important esdeveniment.The Council of Trent was part of the process marking the transition from the Middle Ages into Modernity. In this sense, the function of Catholic Reformation may be linked to the need of a new kind of religiosity. And this would in turn
require a renewed attitude in the sacred sphere, involving fundamental changes in all aspects of worship, among which we find the music. The documents presented in the following pages illustrate conveniently the way these changes were introduced in theDiocesis of Barcelona. On the one hand, the assembled documentation clearly
shows the involvement of the bishops of Barcelona in the application of the reforms. Thus, its interest concerning de history of the Diocesis is undeniable. On the other hand, however, the relevance of the case transcends the local level, to the extent that it represents an example of the role and importance of bishops concerning the
implementation of the spirit of the Council of Trent. Thus, we hope our paper may contribute to a better knowledge of this important event
