Abstract
L'objectiu d'aquest article és fer un balanç del regnat de Jaume I. El mètode consisteix a
examinar la situació interior i exterior al principi i al final del regnat. De la comparació entre
ambdues situacions es desprèn un balanç positiu des del punt de vista de la història general
de la Corona d'Aragó. És un balanç que s'emmarca en les coordenades de l'època medieval,
però Jaume I és un rei molt present en la memòria dels historiadors i erudits de l'Aragó, Catalunya,
València i fins i tot de Castella; per això se'n fa una segona valoració. Aquesta valoració
és l'estat de l'opinió pública contemporània sobre Jaume I. Finalment, l'article acaba amb una
reflexió personal de l'autor sobre la figura i obra de Jaume I.The objective of this article is to make an evaluation of the reign of James I. The method
consists on comparing the political situation inherited by the king with the legacy at the reigns
end. The comparison between both situations results as a positive evaluation from the
point of view of the general history of the Crown of Aragon, framed in the limits of the Middle
Ages. Although James I is a very present king in the memory of the scholars and, in a certain
way, of the people from Aragon, Catalonia, Valencia and even Castilla. It is for this reason that
a second evaluation is done, as a result of the contemporary opinion about James I. The article
finishes with a personal reflection of the author about the figure and act of James I
