Artificial biomineralisation of flax fibres in the presence of amino acids for use in natural fibre reinforced composites

Abstract

Biomineralisation is gaining increasing interest as a potential technology for coating fibres for use in high-performance composites. The application of molecular biology and protein chemistry into material engineering creates an important interface between traditional methods in materials design and structural biology.
