Profesionales de la información e investigadores: la creación de un binomio para el estudio del ferrocarril

Abstract

Since its creation in 1985, one of the priorities of the Fundación de los Ferrocarriles Españoles (Spanish Railway Foundation) has been the safekeeping and dissemination of the railway’s documental and bibliographic heritage. At the end of the 1990s, its Documentation Department was restructured in order to be able to offer researchers an integrated information and research service, giving rise to a Documentation and Historical Railway Archive Department, which in turn was divided into two main areas: Documental Heritage and Railway History Programme. This structure provides the basis for devising a range of collaboration and dissemination programs in which the different sections that form part of these areas interact. The basic objectives of the Historical Railway Archive, the Railway Library and Newspaper Library, the Documentation Centre and the Translation Service are the safekeeping and dissemination of railway documentation through their different collections, while the Railway History Programme is in charge of promoting and consolidating railway history research. This confluence of professionals results in a Centre of Resources for Railway Research, whose main exponents are the “Docutren” web page, the organisation of conferences, congresses and exhibitions, the issue of publications, agreements with researchers and institutions, as well as other activities related to its objectives
