This article focused on librarians services provided to distance learning student in
Brazilian universities. It analyzes the work of the librarians and evaluates the services
carried out in the libraries in relation to distance learning. Twelve librarians from
Brazilian universities which offer distance learning courses took part of this research
by answering a questionnaire. The procedures of the librarians in regard to the
organization of distance courses, the means of communication held between the
librarians and the students, and the librarians’ formation were investigated. The
bibliographic survey was the type of services most often used by Distance Learning
students and the telephone and e-mail the tools most often used by the librarians to
