Formålet med dette studie var at beskrive den histologiske læsionsudvikling af kronisk eksperimentel infektion med plasmacytose virus (AMDV stammen, Saeby/ DEN/799.1/05). Forsøget varede 6 måneder, hvor naturlig infektion i safir mink forløb parallelt med den eksperimentelle infektion i brune mink. Infektionen resulterede kun i mindre uspecifikke kliniske symptomer såsom nedsat appetit, blød eller unormal farvet fæces især indenfor de første 8 uger efter AMDV inokulation. Obduktionerne viste kun få forandringer hovedsagelig lokaliseret i lever, milt og nyre. De histologiske fund var primært infiltrationer af mononuklære celler i lever, nyre, hjerne, færre lymfocytter og øget antal plasmaceller i lymfeknuder og milt. Alle forandringerne var typiske for plasmacytose og lignede fund ved andre AMDV stammer. Der var ingen sammenhæng mellem forandringer og tidspunktet for inokulation. Studiet bekræfter at diagnostik af plasmacytose (AMDV Saeby/DEN/799.1/05) kræver serologisk eller PCRundersøgelse eller en kombination af begge.
