Background: Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease that usually attacks the joint on the knee. Most Most daily activities using knee, so if someone suffers this disease she/he will experience some health problems such as difficulties in walking, squatting, upstairs and downstairs activities, long distance walk.The most influencing factors for osteoarthritits genu are : age, lifestyle, trauma, and obesity. In this research, the choice of women as research respondents because histologically the matrix of women bone is not indencity like men’s and easier to degenerative. Body Mass Index (BMI) with the obesity category will burden at the lower extremity level wich cause big pressure at genu to enlarge the risk factor for osteoarthritis genu.
The Result Purpose: To find out the relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and Osteoarthritits Genu at women aged 60-70 years at Integrated Health Service of Elderly.
Research Methods: The reseach type used in this study is descriptive cross sectional. The used population is women at the aged 60-70 years at Integrated Health Service of Elderly Peduli Insani Mendungan which total number 106 members. The Sampling Technique used purposive sampling. Data normality test used Kolmogrov-Smirnov Test. The results were analyzed using Spearman Correlation test.
The Result: The result of Spearman Correlation test is 0,511. It shows the relationship between The Body Mass Index and the Osteoarthritis Genu is equivalent.
Conclusion: There is a significant correlation between the Body Mass Index and Osteoarthritis Genu
