Regionalization of Dalmatia - Recommendation of new administrative and territorial structure

Abstract

Polazeći od činjenice da se na području Dalmacije nalazi preveliki broj jedinica lokalne samouprave, u ovome radu su analizirane sve jedinice lokalne samouprave, koje se nalaze na području Dalmacije. Predmet ovog rada upravo je analiza postojećeg stanja unutar jedinica lokalne samouprave. Analiza jedinica lokalne samouprave provedena je na temelju: demografskih pokazatelja, socioekonomskih pokazatelja, prometne povezanosti i centralnih funkcija. Metode korištene u ovome radu su: analiza literature i izvora, analiza statističkih podataka, metode vizualizacije i analize u GIS-u. Cilj ovog rada je prijedlog novog administrativno-teritorijalnog ustroja Dalmacije. Pretpostavka je da će analiza pokazati kako je većina jedinica lokalne samouprave premala i ovisna o financijskoj pomoći države i županije unutar koje se nalazi. Nakon analize trenutnog administrativno-teritorijalnog ustroja, predložen je novi administrativno teritorijalni ustroj s manjim brojem krupnijih jedinica lokalne samouprave. Novi administrativno-teritorijalni ustroj temelji se na jedinicama lokalne samouprave koje su zadovoljile sve kriterije tijekom analize te su im pripojene ostale na temelju međusobne udaljenosti i prometne povezanosti.Driven by the fact that there are too many local self-government units and organizations located in the region of „Dalmatia“; Croatia, in this work we analyze all those self-government units. The subject of this thesis is in fact the analysis of the existing condition within the local self-government units. The analysis of the units is conducted with all these factors in mind and carefully looked into: demographic indicators, socioeconomic indicators, traffic infrastructure and connections with their central functions. The methods that were used in this thesis include: analysis of various literatures and origins, analysis of statistical data and methods of visualization and analysis in GIS. The goal of this thesis is to recommend a new administrative and territorial structure for the region of „Dalmatia“. The main assumption is that the analysis will show how most of the current used units are too small and immensely dependant on the financial aid of the government and the county they are located in. After the analysis of the current administrative and territorial structure, a new administrative and territorial structure will be suggested; one that has fewer but larger sized local self-government units. The new administrative and territorial structure will be based on the self-government units which have satisfied all of the criteria during the analysis and the other units will be incorporated under those units accordingly based on distance and the traffic connections and infrastructures between the two
