To assist you in making the transition from high school to college Methods: 2. To acquaint you with the systems, services, expectations, methods, and traditions of Eastern Illinois University 3. To provide a "safe place" where you can express your concerns about the problems you may be having in and outside of class (verbally and in writing) 4. To offer you support and guidance as you begin your college life 5. To provide student with the opportunities to develop a network with students and faculty in various departments The information presented in class and the discussions and activities that we will be involved in are essential parts of the Freshman Seminar experience; therefore, attendance is extremely important and will be a factor in each student's grade. The course grade will be determined through a point system based upon attendance, class participation, short quizzes and homework, a note card journal, a short paper and a group presentation project. Attendance: Attendance at all classes is always required. I, Devon Flesor, determine whether an absence is excused or not. Absences cleared in advance are more likely to be excused. Other absences are more difficult to have excused unless supported by substantial documentation (i.e., Health Service time sheet, evidence from an official source, copy of court order, etc.). Unexcused absences will mean loss of points. Any student who has more than four unexcused absences will automatically fail the course. Have Chapters 9 and 10 read; discuss academics; discuss class evaluation essay; library tour on 9/17 meets in Booth Library; Professor Interview and Note Card Journal due 9/17. ..
