In this paper we present a unified theory for studying the so-called Krall-type discrete orthogonal polynomials. In particular, the three-term recurrence relation, lowering and raising operators as well as the second order linear difference equation that the sequences of monic orthogonal polynomials satisfy are established. Fish's Feelings By Ken Fish LAST WEEK'S pl'oduction of "In-herit the Wind" by the Players of Eastern was, in one word, mag-nificent. The Jerome Lawrence-Robert E. Lee play was presented to a cap-tive audience for six consecutive nights, ending Saturday, and there were many-myself included-who were so fascinated that they view-ed the performance twice. Based on the famous trial of John T. Scopes in Dayton, Tenn. on July 10-21, 1925, "Inherit the Wind" vividly portrays the re-sentment of a small, deeply reli-gious town when a young teacher -Bertram Cates (Jay Platt)-lectures to his class on Darwin's "Origin of Species." To prosecute this sinner comes thl'ee-time presidential candidate Matthew Harrison Brady (Jim Sarver), an ardent fundamentalist. For the defense, the most brilliant criminal lawyer in the country-Henry Drummond (Bob Hodge)-is l'etained. The climax of the tl'ial occurs when Drummond, confronted with a hostile asmosphere and l'efused permission to introduce expert testimony on evolution, calls Bl'a-dy himself to the stand and tears llis fundamentalist theol'ieil to shreds, leaving, the old man a weeping, broken failure. In the role of Hel1l'Y Drummond (Clarence Darrow), Bob Hodge gave a, performance unequaled on the Eastern stage since the under-graduate days of Han-yetta Peter-ka, the greatest dramatic talent to ever grace our campus. Hodge so closely imitated the sharp speaking voice of Darrow that the resulting performance was almost frightening at times. Jim Sarver was impressive as the deep-voiced, confident Brady, (William Jennings Bryan) always ready to speak in defense of the "common people." (C'mtinued from page 2) ing outstanding performances in-cluded Carol McHenry as Rachel Brown, Ed LeCrone as Meeker, Don Castles as Rev. Brown, Ray Hoops as Hornbeck, Keith Jones as the judge, and Jim Koertge as the mayor. Needless to say (because it is always the case), "Gabby" Gab-bard did his usual splendid job of directing. However, I personally feel that this w,as "his finest hour." John Bielenberg, a first-year man in' the speech depart-ment, did a beautiful job with the scenery for the two-level produc-tion. Although the program set the place as a small town and the time as not too long ago, when the hulking figure of Bob Hodge stalked onto the stage, everyone in the audience was in Dayton on that hot summer so many years ago. Mr. Hodge is destined for permanent greatness; he already has achieved it for six nights.
