Graduated in Theatre Studies from the Univer-sity’s Institute of Polish Studies. In 1988 he spent half a year as Fulbright scholar at the State University of New York in Buffalo, USA. His PhD thesis dealt with the cognitive aspect of the process of interpretation. Initiator and co-organizer of a series of conferences on drama- and theatre-related subjects for young academics. He de-fended his habilitation degree in 2012 based on his book Po-między-nami. Słaby dyskurs w polskim dramacie współczesnym (Be-tween-us. Weak discourse in contem-porary Polish drama). Author of the drama anthology Polska dramatyczna 3 (Dra-matic Poland 3) published in 2014 roku and the introduction to Antologia polskiego dramatu niekanonicznego (Anthology of Polish uncanonical drama). Schmidt Eminent Scholar in the Humani-ties. Educated at Jerusalem and Oxford, he was chair of the Temple University Phi-losophy Department before coming to FAU in 2005. He has held academic appoint-ments in Paris, Berlin, and Hiroshima and was awarded senior research Fulbright and NEH fellowships. His widely translated research covers many topics in the hu-man and social sciences with particular emphasis on questions of philosophy, aesthet-ics, culture, language, identity, and embodiment. Authored books include T.S.
