The role of phosphate-accumulating bacteria in biological wastewater treatment

Abstract

Danas se velika pažnja poklanja biološkom pročišćavanju voda i radi se na razvijanju što boljih i ekonomičniji tehnika koje bi to omogućile. Jedan od najvećih zagađivača je upravo anorganski fosfor, odnosno fosfati koji se nekontrolirano ispuštaju u okoliš. Stoga je potrebno uvesti što bolje nadzore nad tvornicama i poboljšati nadgledanje kvalitete voda. Sam proces biološkog uklanjanja fosfata temelji se na aktivnosti fosfat-uklanjajućih bakterija. Danas se rade ispitivanja kako bi se otkrilo koje su od tih bakterija najpogodnije za biološko pročišćavanje otpadnih voda. Rezultati tih ispitivanja bit će vrlo važni u budućnosti kako bi se sam postupak pročišćavanja voda što bolje usavršio te se time spriječila eutrofikacija izazvana djelovanjem čovjeka.Today, wastewater treatment is one of the most important issues in the world, and many scientists are working in order to improve more economic and cheaper techniques. One of the biggest pollutants are phosphates. Wastewater needs to be under control constantly in order to improve the better quality of water and to prevent the pollution. The proces of biological removing of phosphates is based on the activity of phosphate-accumulating bacteria. Scientists are working to discover which of these organisms is the most competent in removing phosphate. This scientific research will be very important in the future, because we need economically and ecologically acceptable method of wastewater treatment in order to prevent eutrophication and pollution of enviroment
