Abstract
Biofilm is a complex community of organisms in their own polymer matrix. It is found on surfaces that are exposed to the aquatic environment, and sometimes appears as a floating unit. Biofilms are structurally and physiologically very diverse, therefore we can talk about different types of biofilms. Phototrophic biofilms are specific because they depend on the light. Their stratification occurs at the level of organisms, but also as chemical stratification. Because of their structural diversity (diversity of organisms) they are potentially very suitable for hydrogen production, accumulation of harmful substances, and therefore, appliable in many branches of industry. The aim of this work was to describe phototrophic bifilms, explain the process of their emergence and link their structure with application
