To an-swer this need, we conceived a miniaturized inertial impactor. The developmentof such an impactor becomes more challenging as the diameter of the particles tobe collected becomes smaller, since the velocities required to induce the impact ofner particulate matter become higher. To overcome these challenges, we modelednumerically the uid dynamics and particles transport within the impactor. Oursimulations show that the uid ow within the impactor becomes unstable as theReynolds number is increased to capture ner particles. Furthermore, the onsetof these instabilities depends not only on the Reynolds number but also on thegeometry of the impactor. The unsteady ow within the impactor inuences thetrajectories of the particles to be collected, especially the smaller particles. Theparticles trajectories shows that the impaction location varies substantially as theReynolds number increases and, consequently, the eciency of the impactor deteri-orates.
