Abstract
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is spending US50milliononanewphaseoftheDesertMarginsProgramme.TheprogrammewillmarryindigenousknowledgewithmodernlandmanagementtechniquestofindnewwaysofprotectingtheenvironmentinareassuchasMatabelelandinZimbabweandtheSudano−SahelianzoneofSenegal.Sevenothercountriesarecoveredintheprogramme:Botswana,BurkinaFaso,Kenya,Mali,Namibia,NigerandSouthAfrica.UNEP,November2002TheUnitedNationsEnvironmentProgramme(UNEP)isspendingUS 50 million on a new phase of the Desert Margins Programme.
