Abstract
Introduction: Catheterization is the most common invasive and stressful treatment these complication is phlebitis. Phlebitis is a serious complication that causes an unexpected increase in hospitalization period and treatment costs. It may cause sepsis and emboli. The accepted rate for phlebitis is 5% or less, while some studies report that rate between 25-70 percent. The aim of this study was determining occurrence and predisposing factors of phlebitis in patients with IV therapy.
Methods: This study is descriptive cross-sectional one. In this study 400 cases of catheter in patients hospitalized in surgical wards randomly selected & studied. Patients were over 12 years old .Parameters includes: period, vein, time and dressing. Data were analyzed with SPSS software.
Results: Results showed that most patients had 4 days catheter (31.9%) and 37 % of catheter inserted in cephalic veins (37%). Occurrence was 19.6 permit and predisposing factors of phlebitis in patients with IV therapy.
