Relation between conflict type, Conflict Management Approach and Team Effectiveness Of Iranian Super League Volleyball Clubs

Abstract

Abestract Conflicts are a part of life and group work and, if not well managed, can be detrimental to team success. The purpose of this study was to examine the relation between conflict type (Task, Relation), Conflict Management Style (Cooperative, Competitive) and Team Effectiveness of Iranian Super League Volleyball Clubs. To do this, a sample players and couches of 13 teams from the 16th Tournament of Super League Volleyball Clubs of Iran in 2007 were selected. For data collection, we used scales such as Jhen conflict type questionnaire, Tjosvold Conflict Management questionnaire and Van Der Vegt, Alper Team Effectiveness questionnaire. To estimate the validity of the questionnaires an Average variance extracted method (AVE) and to estimate the reliability of the questionnaires a Composite Reliability method (CR) was used. Findings based on structural equation modeling and partial least squares method indicate that in Iranian Super League Volleyball Clubs teams there was a positive significant relation between task and relationship conflict and both conflict type had negative effects on Team Effectiveness. Cooperative conflict management Style from the view of couches and players for Team Effectiveness were meaningful and this construct had a positive effect on Team Effectiveness. Competitive conflict management Style from the view of couches for Team Effectiveness had a negative effect and from the view of players was not meaningful
