Surveying some adverse reactions following MMR vaccination in 210 childern were in 1-6-years age in Ardabil

Abstract

Introduction: MMR vaccine was added to Iranian children’s vaccination schedule from 2005 and until there hasn’t been enough reaserches about adverse effects of this vaccine in Iran.Therefore in this study, we follow up adverse reactions associated with this vaccine expected to occur in the first month after vaccination. Materials & Methods: This study is a descriptive – analytic one surveillance 210 vaccinated children with MMR vaccine(Manufactured by Razi Institue) from January 2005 through December 2006 in Ardabil. samples was selected of both sex and from 12-15- month and 4-6 year – old children . We used cheklists collected after completing the demography of children and getting their phone numbers by vaccinator. 3-4 weeks after vaccination , we called children’s parents to ask for possible adverse reactions. 52 cheklists excluded because their phone numbers were false or not available .The findings from 210 cases were analyzed by descriptive statistics & through the computer software spss program.. Results: from 210 cases studied 53% (112 case) were boys and 47% (98 case) were girls who among them 34.76% boys and 45.11% girls were in the 12-15- month and others were in 4-6- year –age group .At all 92(43/8%) of the children developed adverse reactions. The most common reactions are respectively:59 reports of fever(28/09%) , 23 reports of illness(10/95%), 21 reports of injection site pain (10%), 14 reports of rash (6/66%),10 reports to nausea and vomiting (4/76%), 5 reports salivary gland and parotid swelling(2/38%).Convulsion and others side effects wasn’t reported. The study didnt show any significant relationship at points of gender in the incidence rate of adverse events. Fever was more common in the 4-6-age years and rash was more common in the 12-15- month, whereas others there were no association between age and incidence rate of adverse reactions. Conclusion: In this study fever was the most common side effects reported after MMR vaccination
