Die gegenständliche Diplomarbeit möchte sich an der relativ neuen Diskussion zur Ökonomie der Aufmerksamkeit beteiligen, die der deutsche Architekturtheoretiker Georg Franck entfacht hat. Nachdem die grundlegenden Funktionsweisen dazu gleich von Beginn an erklärt werden, kommt es in der Arbeit zu einer Herantastung an das zuletzt angeführte Beispiel. Von Symbolen und Stereotypen führt die Diskussion über die Reduktion von Komplexität am Beispiel der europäischen Orientalismus weiter zur Betrachtung des Körpers als der, auf den sich die Gesellschaft einschreibt und das Bild, das durch seine Künstlichkeit kommuniziert. Der Künstlerin wird unterstellt, sie errege durch ihre Fotoserie Women of Allah bewusst Aufmerksamkeit, um anhand herkömmlicher Stereotypen Sichtweisen des Spannungsfeldes zwischen Ost und West wiederholt dem Betrachter vor Augen zu führen. Diese Aufmerksamkeit lenkt auf die Notwendigkeit die bisherigen bipolaren Denkstrukturen aufzubrechen und ein neues Weltbildes mit neuen Werten zu kreieren. Die Verantwortung der KünstlerIn liegt in der Erhaltung der moralischen Werte in der Gesellschaft und soll ein Gleichgewicht zu einschlägig vorherrschenden Tendenzen, wie zum Beispiel dem System der Wirtschaft herstellen.This diploma thesis is an effort to participate in the relatively new discussion to economy of attention and/or awareness. The translation of ‚Aufmerksamkeit’ is both attention and awareness, as well as interest and some others, depening on the context it is used. The discussion was brought up from the German theorist in architecture Georg Franck who currently teaches on the Technical University of Vienna. After the basical functionality has been interpreted from the beginning on, it comes to a gingerly approach to the exemplification of Shirin Neshat’s art work. From symboles and stereotypes (in english often also used the word ‚prototype’) leads the discussion over reduction of complexitivity named by the european ‚Orientalism’ into the considerations to the body who is inscribed by our society and the picture what communicates through its artificial object. By this thesis Shirin Neshat is subordinated to attract interest deliberatly by using conventional stereotypes of the gap between east and west in her photos „Women of Allah“. Through the repetition of traditional symbolics she faces the observer and draws his/her attention to the need of a new view of the world with new values
