Community structure of forest songbirds of Petrova gora

Abstract

Na užem području Petrove gore je na 54 točke provedeno istraživanje šumskih zajednica ptica pjevica metodom točkastog transekta te vegetacijskih značajki metodom kružne plohe. Zabilježeno je ukupno 40 vrsta ptica, od čega je kvalitativnom analizom obuhvaćeno 18 šumskih pjevica. Prema udjelu temeljnica stabala istraživane su točke grupirane prema tipu šume na bukove, hrastove i miješane šume. Ukupna procijenjena gustoća gnijezdećih šumskih pjevica je 823 para po km2. Dvije najbrojnije vrste u svim tipovima šuma bile su zeba Fringilla coelebs i crvendać Erithacus rubecula, dok se treća najbrojnija vrsta razlikovala između tipova šume. Hrastove i miješane šume su imale značajno veću brojnost, raznolikost i ujednačenost zajednica ptica od čistih bukovih šuma, čemu doprinosi i starost šumske zajednice. Također je zabilježena prisutnost goluba dupljaša Columba oenas na ovom području. Velika zabilježena brojnost ove vrste ukazuje na potrebu za daljnjim koracima u vidu njezine zaštite.Research was conducted on 54 points in the area of Petrova gora; a survey of forest songbird communities was conducted using the point transect method, in parallel with a survey of vegetation characteristics on the same points, using the circular plot method. In total 40 bird species were recorded, 18 of which (forest songbirds) underwent qualitative analysis. Tree basal area was used to group the investigated points into three forest types: beech, oak and mixed. Total estimated density of breeding forest songbirds was 823 pairs per km2. The two most abundant species across all forest types were the Chaffinch Fringilla coelebs and the European Robin Erithacus rubecula, while the third most numerous species varied according to forest type. Oak and mixed forests showed significantly greater bird abundance, diversity and evenness than pure beech forests, while forest age also contributed to the above. A notable presence of the Stock Dove Columba oenas was recorded in this area and further steps are required regarding its protection
