"This thesis is a collection of poems exploring the relationship between love and loss. It is composed in three sections that mimic the two quotations used in its epigraph (one passage from The Odyssey and one passage from The Heart Sutra). Each section investigates the relationship between the human desire to love and the inevitable complications that accompany it. The perilous and transitory nature of human relationships (to friends, to lovers, and to nature itself) is found to be paradoxical, and the poems as a whole are interested in ways of maintaining these relationships beyond the logic of conventional thought."--Abstract from author supplied metadata
