Abstract

THE TYPES AND INTERPRETATION OF FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE USED IN “PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN ON STRANGER TIDE” MOVIE MANUSCRIPT 2011. SCHOOL OF TEACHER TRAINING AND EDUCATION MUHAMMADIYAH UNIVERSITY OF SURAKARTA. 2015 In this study, the researcher discussed the figurative language used in Pirates of The Caribbean on Stranger Tides Manuscript. The purposes of this study are: to identify the kinds of figurative language and to explain the reason of figurative language used in Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides Manuscript. The object in this study is focused on figurative language used in “Pirates of Caribbean on Stranger Tides” movie manuscript and the sentence in the script become main focused that researcher going to analyze. The data were analyzed based on figurative language theory proposed by X.J Kennedy. In analyzing the data, the researcher used a descriptive analysis. To give the reason of figurative language used in “Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides” movie manuscript, the writer uses context language use in the discourse analysis of data or utterances within specific socio-cultural context and indicates a method of data analysis that can tell researchers about the discursive construction of a phenomenon. The conclusion is based on kind of figurative language analysis and gave the reasons. There are 36 figurative languages. After analyze the data, the researcher conclude six figurative languages in this movie manuscript. There are three personifications, six metaphors, fifteen similes, four hyperboles, seven synecdoche and two rhetoric. “Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides” movie script is dominated by simile figurative language Keywords: Figurative Language, Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides, Manuscript
