BECJCER Sonderforschungsbereich 127, Fachhereich Chamie, Universitlt Marburg an dar Lahn/FRG In contrast to tetramethyl-[1l and tetrakis(trimethylsilyl)disti-bine [2] or similar compounds which are red in the crystalline state onl~ tetra(cyclopentadienyl)distibine [3] , obtained from SbC13 and NaC5H5 in THF is reported to be red both in the solid and in solution. After repeated recrystallisation we, however, isolated a pale yellow compound, which is shown by X-ray structure deter-mination to be the tetrastibadamantane 1. 1 -No·3THF E= Sb 1; AsJ For tetra(tert-butyl)tetrastibetane ~ different colours are repor-ted, too. Whereas ISSLEIB and coworkers [4] prepared a red amor-phous powder, BREUNIG and KlINIG [51 synthesized a yellow cry-stalline material. The constitution of the latter compound was confirmed by X-ray diffraction methods. As in the homologous and isotypic tetra(tert-butyl)tetrarsetane !, the bulky substituents are arranged in all-trans configuration occupying the pseudo-equatorial positions of the folded fourmembered ring.
