Based on the research that has been done by the researcher in MTsN
Karangkendal, the researcher has found the data or information that there is a
problem in their learning and teaching process, the problem is in terms of writing,
most of students are lack in ability of writing the essay. Writing is one of
important language skill that must be masterred by the student, as Hairton (1986 :
233) say that writing has significant funtion. It is a major tool for learning.
Writing essay is very important to be learning by students, because there is always
learning essay in writing. So, the researcher used the cooperative integrated
reading and writing composition (CIRC) method to solve the problem.
Cooperative integrated reading and composition (CIRC) is part of model in
cooperative learning method.
According Açıkgöz, 1992; Yaman, 1999, “ Cooperative integrated reading
and composition (CIRC) technique, one of the learning techniques based on
cooperation, is designed to develop reading, writing and other language skills in
the upper grades of primary education. CIRC technique presents a structure that
increases not only opportunities for direct teaching in reading and writing but also
applicability of composition writing techniques.”
The research method in writing this thesis is quantitative method. It means
that the data that will be achieved from the field of doing research presented by
numbers. The techniques of collecting the data are used by the writer are
observation, interviews, test and questionnaire.
After the writer did the research and analysis of data, the writer found that
the students 'ability in writing essays before using cooperative integrated reading
and composition (CIRC) method the score is 2285 with average 65.3, the students'
ability in writing essays after using integrated cooperative and composition
(CIRC) method the score is 2815 with average 80.4. And the result of the
influence of the students' ability in writing essays before and after using
cooperative integrated reading and composition (CIRC) method the score is 21.2.
The score of 21.2 is significant, because t test > t table or 21.2 > 2.03.
From the research that has been done, it is conclude that there is a
significant the influence of the students ability in writing essay before and after
using cooperative integrated reading and composition (CIRC) method
