Indonesia, the world\ue2s 4th largest country in terms of population, has recently been drawing interest as an attractive market. The country\ue2s economy has seen positive and sustainable growth since the end of the 1997 Asian financial crisis. This paper discusses how Japan and South Korea have impacted the Indonesian economy via the soft power of both J-Pop and K-Pop. It explores why Indonesian youth have accepted the Japanese and Korean cultures. Also, it shows how these two cultures affect Indonesian\ue2s lifestyles, as well as how both J-Pop and K-Pop pervade their world and become part of their social life. The paper explores the differences and similarities between the two pop culture soft powers. Finally, it seeks to provide deeper meaning behind the competition between Japan and Korea in their use of soft powers in Indonesia, which may perhaps affect the economic developments and connections between Indonesia and these two nations respectively
