Spatial repellents for the  control of  
malaria mosquitoes in Africa 
Optimism: Indoor biting and resting mosquitoes are now 
being well controlled throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.  
Urgency: Residual malaria transmission will be maintained 
by Outdoor Biting Outdoor Resting (OBOR) mosquitoes 
One solution: spatial repellents to complement LLINs and 
IRS by providing easy to use personal protection from biting 
mosquitoes over larger areas.  
Target spatial repellents will be capable preventing 
mosquito bites both inside and outside of houses 
Goal: Define a target product profile in g active / m3   
of current spatial repellents for mosquito control in 
Africa
