Many of us are interested in the nutrient content of our crops and its rela-
tion to soil maintenance.
The table below will show the approximate composition of certain crops on a
ton basis. It shows the approximate amount of plant nutrients removed from the
soil when one ton of crops is sold. This amount of nutrients will have to be add-
ed in one way or another if the soil fertility is maintained. If crop residues are
burned or discarded, these amounts are not adequate to maintain the fertility of
the land.
Fertilizing constituents removed from the farm when the following commodities
are sold. (Basis - 1 ton) calculated from TAES Bulletin 461 (Revised).
