Use of mobile devices as tools for learning

Abstract

Esta investigación fue diseñada para explorar las experiencias de aprendizaje de cuarenta y cinco estudiantes de tres programas de posgrado de tres universidades mexicanas, quienes utilizaron sus dispositivos móviles para realizar sus actividades de estudio en una mplataforma e-learning. Este estudio se centró en cómo los estudiantes percibieron el uso de dispositivos móviles para construir su experiencia de aprendizaje desde cualquier lugar. En la investigación se utilizó un enfoque cualitativo con estudio de casos múltiples en el que se documentaron las experiencias de los estudiantes. Se identificaron tres aspectos básicos: a) los estudiantes valoraron la portabilidad del móvil para lograr el aprendizaje, b) experimentaron sentimientos de confort y eliminación de estrés al poder acceder desde cualquier sitio a la plataforma y c) reconocieron el potencial de la tecnología móvil para alcanzar sus metas de aprendizaje.This research was designed to explore the learning experiences of forty-five students from three graduate programs of three Mexican universities, who used their mobile devices to conduct their studying activities in an e-learning platform. The research is focused on how students perceived the use of mobile devices to build a customized learning experience from anywhere they were. A multiple case research with a qualitative approach was used where students' experiences were documented. We identified three basic aspects: a) students valued the portability of the device to achieve their learning, b) students experienced feelings of comfort and stress elimination when accessing the platform from anywhere and, c) students recognized the potential of mobile technology to achieve their learning goals
