Send one copy of the assessment to the faculty member who requested it.  Send one copy of the assessment to the Collection Management Officer.    Course:  HIS 115 – Sex in the Western World  Department, College:  Dept. of History, College of A&S  Faculty Member:  Miriam Reumann and Bridget Buxton  Date returned to Faculty:  9/11/15  Librarian Completing Assessment:  Amanda Izenstark  Collection Management Officer:  Joanna Burkhardt    Assessment of:   Suitability of existing library resources;  New library resources required to support the program;  Information skills education required by the students; and  Funds needed for library materials and services.  Please include:  1. What library holdings already exist in relevant subject categories? How much money is now allocated in the subject area?   $4,134 per year is allocated for History monographic purchases.    The University Libraries have a collection on women’s studies, and over the past few years, Profs. Reumann and Buxton have made numerous useful recommendations to add to our collection in this area. Further purchases will be needed to supplement these, but this can be done within the existing budget.  2. Does URI have the essential journals as noted in the Faculty Questionnaire?  Yes. URI has Journal of the History of Sexuality from 1990 to the present and the Journal of Women’s History from 1989 to the present via various databases.   3. What new resources are required to support the course (including media, electronic, or other non-print materials)?   Aside from adding to the collection in this area as part of routine collection development, no other new resources are required.  4. What information mastery sessions will be required for the students?  Students will be writing brief essays based on instructor-supplied materials, so no library or online research will be required. If this changes, the instructors know that course-integrated research instruction sessions are available for their students.  5. What is the approximate cost to acquire the materials necessary? Which of these will be continuing costs?  Acquisition of new publications for this course can be done through existing funds.       Rev 6/16/15 jmb
