Abstract

This research suggests about problem solving and the ability ofmathematical reasoning test instruments inclassVIIIstudentsof SMP.The aimofthis studyisdraftingtests thatcanidentifyproblem–solvingabilityandmathematical reasoningwhich are appropriate,valid, reliable, andhavedistinguishing features, and the adequateindex ofitem difficulty. The method used in this research is the development method (R&D), while the type of research is the development of instruments.The steps takenin developing thetest are (1) Definingthetestuniverse, audience, andporpose(2) develophingatest plan(3) composingthetestitem(4) conductpilotingtest (5) conductitemsanalysis (6) revisingthetest. The results obtained are the completion of problem solving andmathematical reasoning questions. The instrument made are appropriate to measure theability ofproblem solving andmathematical reasoningowned bystudents
