Este artículo pretende profundizar en el conocimiento de la corte de Felipe II, merced a la correspondencia que mantuvieron Luis de Requesens y su yerno, el III marqués de los Vélez, entre 1572 y 1575. El servicio al rey se muestra como el verdadero trampolín de la aristocracia hispánica, pero para acceder a los puestos de relevancia en la administración y al espacio áulico era conveniente y casi necesario estar emparentado con algún ilustre linaje. El brillante y vertiginoso cursus honorum de don Pedro Fajardo, merced al apoyo de su suegro, ilustra acerca de procesos de movilidad social ascendente, alianzas políticas y familiares. Lo privado y lo público se entremezclan en beneficio de las ambiciones de unos nobles que persiguen su propio éxito no como fin en sí mismo, sino para el aumento del prestigio de su casa.This article aims to deep the knowledge of the court of Philip II, through the correspondence that kept Luis Requesens and his son in law, the third Marquis of los Vélez, between 1572 and 1575.
